EVELYN “SUE” REED, of Pacific, Missouri, passed away May 6, 2026 at the age of 84 years, 7 months, and 3 days. Mrs. Reed was born October 3, 1941 in Dade County, Missouri to Harry Dean, and Freda Mae (nee Johnson) Kimbler. She was united in marriage to Jim M Reed, on September 7, 1961 in Union, Missouri. Mrs. Reed was preceded in death by both her parents, nine siblings and her spouse, Jim M. Reed.
Sue is survived by her daughters, Susan "Heather" Frey and husband Robert III, and Jennifer Melissa Reed; her grandchildren, Aubrey, Elizabeth, and Robbie; one step great-grandchild, Xander Lesley; her siblings, Ester Mae Mueller, Jerry and Max Kimbler; and many other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Reed managed the Pacific Branch of Scenic Regional Library 1964-2009. Helping it to change and grow through many locations and offer a wide variety of services. She was a long time member of the Pacific Presbyterian Church, P.E.O chapter BU, P.A.T.H. (Pacific Arts Theater and Handicrafts) Council, Meramec Valley Historical and Genealogical Society and many other groups and organizations.
Sue lived a full life. She enjoyed helping her husband, Jim with the family farm and animals, gardening and the arts, but her love of history is most evident from multiple books she authored and the collection of clippings from local newspapers of important events, structures, and people that has grown into a monumental Meramec Valley history archive that is maintained and available to researchers, housed next to the Red Cedar Inn Museum and Visitor Center.
Visitation for Mrs. Reed is Tuesday May 12, 2026 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Bell Funeral Home, Pacific, Missouri followed by a brief service. A small private interment will be held at Bellfontaine Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri, Wednesday May 13, 2025.
