James Robert (Chip) Jolley Jr., Catawissa, Mo. Chip passed away Friday Jan. 16, 2026 leaving behind a large loving family. He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on Feb. 24, 1952, to James and Geraldine Jolley, brother to and survived by Suzanne Pratl (children; Betsy, Matt, and Emily). He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, JoAnne Jolley (Turner) whom he united in marriage in Seeley Lake, Montana on Feb. 14th, 1976. They moved to Missouri in 1977 where they welcomed 3 beautiful children together that gave them 14 wonderful grandchildren. He is survived by their son, Justin Jolley, and his 4 children: daughter, Bree; sons, Ty (wife, Gracie, carrying the 1st great grandchild), JD, and Zack. Daughter Amber (husband Matt Nelson) and their 3 children, the Mighty M’s: twins Madison and Matthew (wife Jerzie) and son Mason. Daughter Jennifer (husband Jeff Ownby) and their tribe of 7 children: daughters Hannah, Jolene and LauraBeth; sons Cody, Ethan, Chase, and little man Emery. He has left a deep hole in our hearts and will be deeply missed, forever loved.
Chip was a man of wonder and adventure. From Minnesota, to Montata, to Missouri, Chip brought with him his love for outdoors, Harleys, artistic expression, and his love for JoAnne with him every step of the way which has been passed down to each one of his grandchildren. He was a huge history buff who could talk for hours about the inaccuracies of western films and his latest model replicates he built of historical ships and aircrafts. Not only did Chip enjoy reading about history, he was also a prominent member of Civil War Reenactments. During his reenactment days he was elevated to rank of Captain, Company B, second cavalry regiment of the first division, Missouri State Guard. While Chip was a man of hard work, he was not a stranger to the soft side of life. He could be found drawing doodles on any paper product he could get his hands on (birthday cards, calendars, pieces of mail,.. JoAnne’s finished art projects) and eating his favorite chicken wings that his grandson, Cody, barbequed regardless of the temperature outside. If Chip could not be found, he was surely upstairs in his den surrounded by books, guns, knives, and of course, Ms. Kitty, a stray bob-tailed barn cat that captured his heart and was the perfect companion to watch Gunsmoke with.
Chip was a one-of-a-kind man who is loved fiercely by many.
Rest in Peace, Mountain Man.
