MORRIS GENE THOMPSON, of Pacific, Missouri, passed away January 4, 1997 in his 53rd year at St. Joseph Hospital in Kirkwood, Missouri. Born May 9, 1943, at Evansville, Indiana, he was one of seven children born to Morris W. and Erma M. (Egli) Thompson.
He is preceded in death y his mother, and two children, Morris Jr. and Brian Henry Thompson.
Morris is survived by his wife Janet (Babbs) Thompson, of the home; daughter Cheri Williams of Gray Summit, Missouri, father Morris W. of Evansville, Indiana; three grandchildren, Jeremy and Candace Millfelt, and Joshua Williams; four brothers, Steven, Samuel, and Timothy of Evansville, Indiana, and Mark of Eureka, Missouri; two sisters, Cynthia Butler of Evansville, Indiana, and Carol McCaskill of Canada; father and mother-in-law Henry and Verda Babbs; nieces; nephews; and cousins; as well as a host of friends.
Morris had served in the Air Force for 12 years. Hew was a Vietnam Veteran. He had attended the Linn Technical College at Linn, Missouri, graduating with a B.A. Degree in Air-Craft Maintenance. He had been employed at Chrysler Corporation for 19 years before becoming disabled with illness. Morris had been an active person enjoying the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and riding his motorcycle. He also loved aviation and had been taking flying lessons until he became ill. He had even purchased an airplane. When unable to continue his normal activities, he became an avid reader. He was a member of Pacific Baptist Church, a member of Plant Protection Union UPGWA Local 250, and Columbia Lodge AF&AM #534 of Pacific, Missouri
Mr. Morris was in state at Bell Funeral Home, Pacific, Missouri, with visitation on January 6, 1997. American Legion Services were held that night at 7:00 P.M. with Columbia Lodge#534 services at 7:30 P.M. Funeral services were held January 7, 1997 at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend K. Earlwood Towne officiating from Pacific Baptist Church. Interment was in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri with Honor Guard and Flag detail from Scott Air Force base, Belleville, Illinois.
